NLB Horton returned to writing fiction after an award-winning career in journalism and marketing. From her home in the Rocky Mountains, she writes, cross-country skis, gardens and researches ideas for her next novel. Gardening at 8500 feet is an exercise in tough love, says Horton. “Summer is short, water is scarce, and hungry critters abound. I make the most of God’s creation in this incredibly beautiful spot with an irrigated berm surrounded by xeriscape wildflower meadows. The property is glorious in July, August, and September, when fawns are weaned, and looking for greener pastures—which they inevitably find in my yard.” Horton’s first novel in the Parched series, When Camels Fly, released in May 2014.
